Tuesday Savannah Summary

5:20 AM came really early. I mean REALLY early. After forcing ourselves out of te bed we got dressed, made sandwiches, and packed up for fishing. I reckon we made in it the car about 5:45 to head for Miss Judy's. We arrived a bit after 6:00 and met Judy - a nice lady that referred to the "Historic District" as "Historical District." I thought that was amusing. She went ahead and proceed our payment, showed us where to sit, and let us know Bryan would be coming to get us shortly. Bryan was our guide.

It was still pretty dark when we hopped in the boat. A 20.5' center console fishing boat - not a skiff or anything - was what we took out, happens to be Bryan's personal boat. After getting in and securing out belongings Justin pointed out that there were dolphins swimming right there next to the boat. It was two of them and throughout the day we continued to see them here or there. I thought it was pretty cool. Not everyday you see wild porpouses.

We unattached from the dock and took about a 45 minute ride out trough the marshes into the sound. It was a gorgeous ride, no other boats were out, the sun was coming up, it was nice. Once over at the sound we cut up in some of the creeks over and would sit and watch the flats. It was high tide, and high one too because of the full moon tonight (9ft). During high tide the bait fish push up into the grass and the the redfish work to follow them. We were watching for the redfish's tail to stick up in the air and wave around as they were going down to eat fish. Sure enough we saw one pretty quicky, Bryan said it was a big tail too, so he casted us out and we started fishing.

Our bait ws shrimp, we were using light tackle, and corks (aka bobbers). The goal was to wait for the bobber to go down for 2 seconds (or 2 potatoes) and then start reeling. This 'big tail' we saw ended up getting excited about Justin's shrimp and bam, not 2 minutes after putting bait in the water we were pulling in our first fish. Because of where we were Justin had to work him through the grass and stuff it was cool. Bryan scooped him up - he was a bigun - but not red like I expected. More grayish or maybe a bit of taupe. The fish was considered 'trophy' because he was more than 23" long (you can only keep them if they are 13" - 23") the fish was close to 30" actually.

Unfortunately we did not see any other fanning tail and it was time to move. I learned quickly that our captain was not a patient man, and that if we were not getting fish then we were going somewhere else. I caught the next 3 fish. They were all redfish of keeping size. I think it took us 2 spots to get them all.

The next to last spot we ended up at was the edge of a oyster bed. By this time Justin had caught one redfish, a keeper. Right off the bat I pulled in a red here, total = 5. After awhile Jusitn pulled one in to. It happened to be our last one. At this spot we also fished for trout. It was definately more interactive. We were catching the fish, the fish were not catching us. Needless to say, redfish are pretty user friendly. We did not end up with any keeper trout, but I did catch one spotted trout (very cool looking fish), and a summer trout. While at this spot we also caught a lot of "trash" or "fetish" fish. Drummer Fish, Pin Fish, Yellow Tail, and some others. We also caught some unexpected items. Justin pulled in one blue crab, and each of us caught a sting ray. We also caught stick fish - can't forget to mention that.

The last spot of the day was a dud, but the ride back was gorgeous. Bryan even took us down 2 houses past Judy's so we could see Paula Deen's place. I thought that was pretty neat. (Later Justin and I turned around in her driveway.)

After we got back to Judy's our 'rare and elusive cute fisher man guide' cleaned the fish and we hti the road. It was a good trip and well worth the cash we paid to do it. I highly recommend it to anyone that is in the area. Justin snapped some great photos too, so I am sure they will be up on Flikr soon.

After fishing we returned to the hote and crashed for awhile. It was SO nice to lay down and catch some zzzs. Shower came next, and while I was taking mine Justin went and got us on the list for dinner at Lady and Sons (aka - The Evil Empire). Pre-dinner drinks were had a at a place called Finnigan's and for dinner I had a house salad with the MOST delish poppyseed dressing, and the steak and pie (beef tenderloin in a mushroom ragut served with a tomatoe pie. Justin had the chicken pot pie which was HUGE! We had a bottle of the Silverlake Riesling, and keylime pie & fudge pie for dessert. (Yes mom, the fudge pie was heavenly.) Bread served with dinner included a cheddar biscuit and cornbread/grit cake pancake. Mucho tasty. I cannot say enough about how good my food was. I could eat that steak and pie everyday for the rest of my life. It was very very good.

After dinner we meandered back to the hotel, it is time to go to bed though - been a very long day.

Monday Savannah Summary

Today started off better than ever. We slept in a little bit, enjoyed the complimentary continental breakfast at out hotel, and took on the 7ish block walk to Vanilla Day Spa. The smell on vanilla in the spa was intoxicating, and when I changed into a spa robe I knew it was going to be a good day. The robe was fabulous. (Psst, if you can get your hands on a Vanilla Day Spa robe and want to give it to me for Christmas I would be a very happy turkey.)

First up was the facial. Other than the fact that my technician insisted on talking about child abductors, pedifiles, and mothers that kills their children - it was great. I think the best part was the rosemary/mint lotion that she put on my hands and forearms. The cool part is that it was followed by placing each arm in a plastic bag, and then into a warm damp towel. After the facial when she took my arms out it was like she had re-attached new limbs from the elbow down. Quite nice. The facial felt good as well. I espeically liked the tingly mask. During this time Justin was also getting his facial.

Next up was the sugar cookie scrub. Justin and I got to chat for a few minutes between treatments. I must say it was weird to be as naked as I was in front of a complete stranger. If you know me, you know I am not exactly a slim and fit person. You also probably know I am rather self-concious about that. I did my best just to let it go and enjoy the experience. My technician was great, Cynthia was her name. We chatted a good bit of the time. The scrub felt great and really did smell like sugar cookies. It also had walnuts in it. The warmth of the scrub was very relaxing. When she was done applying the scrub I was wrapped in a bunch of plastic, which was then covered by sheets and then towels. Finally I was topped with 4 hot massage stones to keep me nice a toasty (like a Turkey Taco - burrito more like). Cynthia placed and eyemask on my face and then left me in the dark to (what I call) 'steep.' At first I was kind of clostrophobic, but once I figured out I could wiggle my limbs pretty well and shifted around a little I was out. Event slept for a little bit - sweet! Cynthia returned after about 20 minutes and helped me into the shower where she scrubbed of my back and left me to do the rest. Getting all that stuff off as not easy. It was very sticky. When done though I felt like I could just fall asleep. It was glorious.

Next up Justin and I headed into the couples massage room where Cynthia and Justin's technician Angela proceeded to give us massages that were FAB! I think Justin and I both agreed they were the best we have had. All day I have enjoyed rubbing my smooth skin and smelling the vanilla smell that was infused with my flesh.

I didn't think the day could get any better but, for lunch Justin and I headed down to River Street. We walked around and after asking for some reccommendations we settled on Tubby's Tank House. I swear I had the BEST deviled crab I have EVER had. It was soooo good. I also had some pretty fantastic fried shrimp.

After lunch we walked the rest of River Street and headed back to the hotel. After arriving at the hotel I discovered that I had a voicemail from the office so I tried to call Jen and help out. Problem is we have HORRIBLE cell phone reception in the hotel and quite frankly all around the hotel as well. Justin and I were pretty tired so we hung at the hotel for a good while and then headed to Bass Pro Shop over at Savannah Mall. On the way in Justin saw a billboard and we just hhhhaaaaaaaddddd to go. So, we did. I must say I was quite impressed.

For dinner we hit up VinneVanGoGo's - a killer pizza joint in City Market. It ws stellar pie. The goal for after dinner was to locate Lady & Sons so we could go for dinner there tomorrow night. We did so and then headed down to River Street again.

Ben & Jerry's was for dessert. We enjoyed in on a bench overlooking the Savannah River. It was quite nice. We even made it back to the hotel room in time for Jacked Up.

Must go to bed now though. The plan is to head out at 6:00am to make it down to Miss Judy's Charters in time for our 6:30 departure.

Will be dreaming of fish...

How 'Bout Dem...

Gamecocks
They beat the Florida Gators 30-22 on Saturday. What a show! Watching the game at good ole' Williams Brice was fantastic and we were right near some Florida fans which was even better.

Packers
They beat the Atanta Falcons 33-25 yesterday which was fantastic! :-) On the off chance that GB had a good game and beat Atlanta I packed my Green Bay t-shirt before leaving for Savannah. I must say, it has been fun to wear it around town today. I have gotten dirty looks and met quite a few local folk because of it.

In short, the spa was FANTASTIC. Day isn't over yet though, so details will come later.

Fall Break 2005

So, Justin and I arrived in Savannah today. We split from Columbia around 10:30 leaving Vegeta with a heap of foot and extra water, and Gohan in the care on Mike & Mary. We are staying at the Best Western - Historic District should you need to reach us.

After arriving in Savannah around 1:00 we stopped by the hotel to see if we could check-in. No, we had to wait until 3:00. For lunch we headed to The Pirate's House for Sunday Brunch. The lunch buffet was a little pricier than I would have liked, but the food was very good. Especially the honey-pecan glaze for the fried chicken.

From lunch we headed to the City Market to take a historic carraige tour. Our tour guide was quite nice and the tour was enjoyable. By the time that ended we could check in at the hotel. This gave us time to make a game plan for the rest of the day.

In order to take our planned fishing trip on Tuesday Justin and I need Georgia Fishing Licenses. In order to get them we decided Wal-Mart would allow us to kill 2 birds with one stone. 1 - get the licenses 2 - get snacks to carry on the boat. The Wal-mart we located was only 6 miles away and the drive was enjoyable. Problem was that they were out of licenses, so we had to head through Thunderbolt, GA to another Wal-mart. Made for some nice sight seeing. We drove by one of the Paula Deen restaurants, Uncle Bubbas Oyster House.

The trip to Wal-mart put us back at the hotel in time to check some Fantasy Football stats and head out for dinner. After much wandering we ended up at Saigon Restaurant. It was VERY good. I had Thai Garlic with Pork and Justin had some sort of soup. As an appetizer we had their pot stickers, quite nice.

Evening entertainment consisted of The Hauntings tour. It was about an hour and a half walk with ghost stories. Our host, Lilly, was a SCAD student and she did a very nice job. I was slightly confused because some of her historical details differed from those of our earlier tour guide on the historic tour.

Justin serenaded me with humming and such during our walk back to the hotel which was intejected with a stop at the nearby 7-11 so I could grab a razor (poor packing on my part).

Tomorrow we head to Vanilla Day Spa for a massage, sugar cookie scrub, and facial. I am sure it will be glorious.

Time to head to bed though. Will post about tomorrow's details tomorrow evening (obviously).

Byee!

Oh Holy Hell...

Some crazy people here in our bass-ackwards state have decided that not (yes NOT) televising the Clemson/Carolina football game is a good idea. This is the article I saw on WIStv.com. In the article they say to call Jefferson Pilot to complain - (704) 373-3379 --- you can also e-mail feedback1@jpsports.com.

So - what else is going on... several things -- no time write about it now though.

Lata!!
