Chili Chili

Well, its over. We did not bring any trophies home, but we had a good time. Poofy's Turkey Chili was an overall success in my eyes because people seemed to like it and we made them smile. For a run down of the day...

7:00am Justin and I woke up and started loading up. We did the majority of the preparations last night, so it went pretty easy this morning.

8:00am We pulled out of the driveway. We got down tto 5 points about 8:15 and were able to snag a spot right beside the Pirates (Hoke & his group of people). Justin and I got just about everything unloaded by the time Mom & Dad pulled up. Once we got everything unloaded and the car parcked we started set-up.

10:00am Dad went to chef's meeting for us and we started prep. Periodically we would stroll around to take a look at the competition. There were some neat ideas out there, but I definately think that we were sandwiched there with the top of them. To our right were the Pirates and to our left was Slik Willy's Hillbilly Chili. They did some neat weld work for their sign and stuff. It was pretty neat. Cocky made an appearance. We had a face off in the isle in front of our booth. Justin got a good pic. (I will post it soon). Did I mention I was dressed like a turkey?

1:00pm The chili was about ready and people were asking for it. We started serving about 1:15. I stood out front the entire time and recruited customers while Dad cooked, and Mom & Justin served. There would be a rush of people and then nothing for several minuted then another rush, then a break... it was just like that.

3:00pm The pot was about empty. I think we served the last bowl at 3:10. Figures it was at the beginning of a rush. For the rest of the afternoon we relaxed and slowly started packing up. I think we raised about $150 for charity. Which directly correlated to the 150 $1 bowls we sold. (obviously)

Overall it was a good time. Justin is sick though, so he felt pretty crummy all day, but he was a trooper. We are already working on a came plan for next year. Hopefully we will win an award then. Reckon I am going to run though. I am ready to go to bed...

Get Better...

Justin's brother was in a pretty severe wreck last night down in Walterboro. Lori called about 12:30am to let us know she was on the way to the hospital. I talked to her again around 1:15 and most recently at 7::15 this morning. Justin just left for work and he was suppose to call her on his way.

No sure if I can talk about details, but the car went off the road on its side Lori said, narrowly missing the railing of a bridge and a tree. Jeremy's friend Jonathan was driving. Jon broke his foot and a rib. Jeremy was ejected from the car and has been admitted to the hospital. He is VERY lucky though. One of the vertebrae in the middle of his back has been 'compounded' i believe. (not sure if that is the word). Lori said he is pretty beat up though. As I understand it, he is scheduled for an MRI sometime this morning and Lori is going to have him transported to Charleston.

I just hope everything is going to be OK. If his back is messed up, he won't be able to do his job (fire fighter). Hopefully he has disability insurance. That would make for a better 'worst case scenario.' The trick is going to be getting him to stick with re-hab and not over exerting himself. Lori said he is already talking like, "no momma, i will be ok. You'll see I will be driving around in a few days." Both of the Shearer boys are as hard headed as they come, and I know Lori will agree with that.

I am off to the funeral in a few minutes. Mom just called to let me know they are about there. I feel like I should have something to work on in the car, but I did not bring anything from work to take with me. It is a good 2 hour ride to Chesnee. I would carry a book to read, but I left my glasses at the office too. Oh well - reckon I might catch some Zs. Didn't sleep well worrying about Jeremy. Oh - good thing is that I do not think alcohol was involved. My main fear was that he was driving the car and he had been drinking. That is a 1st class ticket out of his career.

Going to go now...

Wholesome Powdery Goodness

Yeah, so GraySail just got a gig to to a new site for Adluh. We went for a tour today it was VERY cool. We had an exceptional time. There were biscuits at the end. That was the best part.

We even got free product.... a 25 lb bag of biscuit mix with butter flakes, yellow & white grits, all purpose flower, seafood breading, and chicken breading. Of course, evey bag was not 25 lb though. Only the biscuit mix because the butter pieces do not get along with the machines that package the smaller bags.

So - that has been the highlight of today. I have taken over bookkeeping for GraySail. I am making progress - which is VERY good. The task has been much easier than I expected.

Unfortunately I have to go to a funeral tomorrow. My Aunt Lois died yesterday morning around 2:30. She had been battling cancer. Mom, Grandma and I will be heading to Chesnee in the morning. I think they are picking me up around 9am. The ties are as follows: Lois is Uncle Bobby's wife, and Uncle Bobby is Grandma Alston's brother, and Grandma Alston is Mom's mom. Make sense? Bad thing about it is that it will be nice to see the family that lives up that way. The Henderson clan (Grandma A's maiden name) is a nice bunch. I wish we did not have to see them in these circumstances.

I will go though.

In Honor of Meat

Yeah, so the annual Chili Cookoff sponsored by Group Therapy is this weekend. We had a powow (sp) with my rent's about our game plan for the day. It should be hella-cool. While mom and dad were up we went to the fair one last time. Neither had ever been to the State Fair. It was fun. We also demoed the bose system for mom.

They were very kind and took Dangeresque with them for the winter. She is going to winter over at their house and I think Justin and I are going to dry dock her up at Lake Wateree in the Spring so we can keep our garage. It will be really nice to have that space back.

This week is going to be pretty busy. We have preparations for Chili Fest to do and such. I didn't sleep worth crap last night so I am really dragging today. :( Guess I will go though. Gots to get work done.

Oh - saw Team America: World Police over the weekend (Justin wanted to). It sucked just as much as the Tenenbaum and DeMint ads do. Although, I am interested in seeing them debate tonight on WIS at 7pm. Reckon I better go.

Lata.

Thanks Ginny + Updates...

A man and his wife are awakened at 3 o'clock in the morning by a loud pounding on the door. The man gets up and goes to the door where a drunken stranger, standing in the pouring rain, is asking for a push.

"Not a chance," says the husband, "it is three o'clock in the morning!" He slams the door and returns to bed.

"Who was that?" asked his wife.

"Just some drunk guy asking for a push," he answers.

"Did you help him?" she asks.

"No, I did not; it is three in the morning, and it is pouring outside!"

"Well, you have a short memory," says his wife. "Can't you remember about three months ago when we broke down and those two guys helped us? I think you should help him, and you should be ashamed of yourself!"

The man does as he's told, gets dressed, and goes out into the pouring rain.

He calls out into the dark, "Hello, are you still there?"

"Yes," comes back the answer

"Do you still need a push?" calls out the husband.

"Yes, please!" comes the reply from the dark.

"Where are you?" asks the husband.

"Over here on the swing!" replies the drunk.

Haha., thought it was another religious one, didn't you?

So, in other news -- I have been asked about the found dog. Yes - it is gone. Justin and I went out that evening to return and found that the dog was gone. We thought it was kind of lame that the people didn't even say thanks or take the sign down, or take the dog's leash of the fence though. Later that evening, before bed I was checking on Gohan and well - the little critter was back. I was like "WHAT??" Anyway, it was gone the next morning and we have not seen it since.

We painted over the weekend. It looks really good. We went to the fair last night. Much fun. I was sad there were not more of my kind but there were TONS of my cousins (chickens). All different kinds too.

Oh, Saturday we went a did an alumni gig for the Moore School. The Dean, Joel Smith, was kind enough to give Justin and I tix to the game. I thought that was super nice, and yes I did wrte him a thank you note. :) Too bad the game was crummy though.

Not sure what to think about by boys though. The Pack is doing poorly, and it really stresses me out - have I mentioned that I have enough other stress?

I stapled my index finger today. It really hurt. I was just trying to load staples in it. I don't know why it was trying to hurt me.

But, I must go. Sorry no recent posting or pictures. Dreamweaver is busted on my laptop so I am kind of stranded.

See ya!

Found Dog

We got up this morning and Justin found a small Chiwawa like dog in our back yard. He had a leash attached. Think he was tied up somewhere in the neighborhood, got loose, and crawled under the fence. He and Gohan seem to get along OK. We are lucky gohan isnt a girl though (well, a non-fixed girl) because this little dude keeps humping the hell out of 'da doof. Not sure how long he will be a visitor. I put a sign out on the fence though to let people know he was back there. I guess we will take the two of them on a walk if he is still here later. Maybe that way someone will claim him. Who knows.

Byee for now though.
