5 am Franticness

So, I was rattled by Gohan this morning just as 5 o'clock got here. It was like he was having one of his 'Doggy Nightmares' where his feet scrape the ground and his collar jiggles and makes noise. He did not respond to me calling his name for him to wake up, and i thought maybe he was trying to get the bedroom door open so he could get out - poddy time? So, I got up (he was at the foot of the bed) and I noticed he was laying down, and he kept moving - I knew it wasn't good. I flipped on the bathroom light, and well - i have spent many hours watching Emergency Vets on Animal Planet - so I immediately knew it was a seizure. I tried to pull him out of it, but it wasn't working. Of course, by now Justin was up and watching. I bolted to the fridge where the Columbia Pet Emergency phone number was and dialed it.

The lady was super nice, and I tried to remain as calm as possible. She asked if he had ever had one before, "Not that I know of." She asked how long it lasted, "Maybe 2 minutes." She let me know that most likely he would have trouble getting up and moving around for the next hour or so, and that it was possible that he may seem somewhat disoriented as well. By this time he was out of the seizure and Justin was talking to him. So, she said that if he had another one to call back and we would get him to the vet, but that if not - as long as he got back to normal shortly, everything should be okay.

As I expected, she was right - he couldnt get up, but he seemed very oriented. He was looking at us, wagging his tail, and he seemed quite happy. He was just not able to get up. Slowly he gained strength in his front legs and tried to get up, but his back legs kept slipping out from under him. Then slowly he got the strength back there, and ended up being pretty normal. Just moving a little slow. I put him outside for a bit and just watched through the window - it was raining, so I was not going out unless he got in trouble. After a bit I left him in and barricaded him in the kitchen and went to sleep on the couch. He was wet so I did not want him in the bedroom, and I wanted to be near in case he had another episode.

Justin thought I kinda over-reacted with it all, but he did admit it was pretty scary. So, Gohan is at home and we are at work. I cannot help but worry about him though. Did some research on the internet, but did not find a whole lot. If you know anything - please post a comment. If anything else happens I will update.

Later -
